Sfera collection
‘‘Sfera’’ is a collection of vibrant and emotionally-rich photographs touching upon the cyclical effect of life. The artist compares the planet to a petri dish full of fungi and bacteria by framing the photos with the circular outline of the dish. As we look deeper into the worlds created by these tiny organisms, we realize that life and death are everywhere. Even within the pages of dying manuscripts a new life is born feeding off the old. The visual aspect of the photographs creates an almost hypnotic effect, alluring the viewer deeper into a variety of landscapes and worlds resembling a dystopic or alien world. The viewer’s perspective is that of a bird, flying above the rocky surface of an unknown territory, thus engaging with the image in a profound and emotional manner. These organisms have found solace within the pages of centuries old manuscripts and pose an immense artistic beauty within that concept. As these fungi are tested and eliminated from the pages of manuscripts, the vicious cycle of life and death resumes. Yet photography continues its legacy of documenting and preserving history, and the artist becomes a micro tourist exploring and photographing worlds usually unbeknownst to the mundane eye.
